North Staffordshire Musculoskeletal Clinic

In North Staffordshire a musculoskeletal department was established involving a broad multi-disciplinary team. A system of assessing patients’ referrals means that patients are now able to see the most appropriate specialist for their condition as a first point of contact.

Being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis was frightening for Tracey Fox, but she found she had the support of not only her neurologist but also an MS-specialist nurse who was part of the multidisciplinary team at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield.

Delays in diagnosis and treatment meant that Susie's husband John, suffered two 'mini-strokes' and then a massive stroke whilst waiting in casualty.If people who have had a stroke do not receive scans and treatment fast enough long-term disabilities may be caused that could have been prevented.
